prayer for our leaders...

a prayer I found today on boundless

"Father of Lights, the time is dark and our eyes are dim. Our kings, ordained for the protection of the weak, expose them to death, yet cry 'hope.' Our people have lost their way and are deceived. Light in the Darkness, we call upon you that we may be undeceived and follow you once more. We humbly and earnestly implore you, not only that the evils in the land be turned back, but that we have the courage to stand against them. Holy Spirit, hear our intercession for the repentance and conversion of those highly placed who do wrong. Renew a right spirit within them. We beg the same mercy for ourselves, who have stood by and called evil good. Assist our prayers, and enable us in all times and places to give you thanks. In the Name of the Trinity, Amen."

freely you shall recieve as you freely give

I stumbled upon this one today while going through my google reader.

Change your mindset for a great 2009

It got my attention and reminded me of the way transactions work in Heaven and that it is more blessed to give than it is to receive.

Ted Bundy's Final Interview

I just read this interview between Dr James Dobson from Focus on the Family and Ted Bundy, the infamous serial killer. It's a really riveting read and I believe a real eye opener into just what a can of worms pornography opens.

One of the more pointed comments made by Ted in the interview:
What I hope will come of our discussion is that I think society deserves to be protected from itself. As we have been talking, there are forces at loose in this country, especially this kind of violent pornography, where, on one hand, well-meaning people will condemn the behavior of a Ted Bundy while they're walking past a magazine rack full of the very kinds of things that send young kids down the road to being Ted Bundys. That's the irony.

SOAP - Matthew 6

Scripture: Matthew 6:5-6
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

Observation:
God normally doesn't move in flashy showy miracles. He works in behind the scenes, putting things in place so that our needs, as he sees them, are met. He knows better than me what my needs are, and how best to meet them.

Application:
Trust God, even when it appears that nothing is going on, for He is working in the background. Thank God for the blessings as they come knowing that He laid the foundation so that they could happen.

Prayer:
Thank you Lord that you are working in the background so that my needs can be met, and thank you that you know what those needs are intimately. Help me to pray simply, and honestly, bringing my cares, worries and needs to you. Trusting that you have them all taken care of.

SOAP - Matthew 5

Scripture: Matthew 5:21-22
21-22"You're familiar with the command to the ancients, 'Do not murder.' I'm telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder. Carelessly call a brother 'idiot!' and you just might find yourself hauled into court. Thoughtlessly yell 'stupid!' at a sister and you are on the brink of hellfire. The simple moral fact is that words kill.

Observation
Our words are much more powerful than we often give them credit for. Words can corrupt a life and destroy a soul

Application
Watch what comes out of your mouth. Be edifying in your words, lift people up and don't bring them down.

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for the power in the words that we use. Thank you that our words echo in the supernatural as well as the natural. Help me to use that power wisely, to edify, not to tear down. To speak positively and with a mind that my words have far reaching effects.

SOAP - Matthew 4

Scripture - Matthew 4:4
4Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: "It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God's mouth."

Observation:
It takes a steady stream of God's word to stay alive, and that means reading the bible on a regular basis

Application:
Read your bible! It's a primary means of how God speaks to us.

Prayer:
Lord thank you for blessing us with your Word in print form so that we can immerse ourselves in it. Help me to read your word daily so that I can be in right relationship with you, know your will and live my life according to that.

SOAP - Matthew 3

Scripture - Matthew 3:11-12
11-12"I'm baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. The real action comes next: The main character in this drama—compared to him I'm a mere stagehand—will ignite the kingdom life within you, a fire within you, the Holy Spirit within you, changing you from the inside out. He's going to clean house—make a clean sweep of your lives. He'll place everything true in its proper place before God; everything false he'll put out with the trash to be burned."

Observation:
The transformation process beginning with being saved starts from the inside and works it's way out.

Application:
We can't look at the outside appearance or at someone's actions and know what God is doing in their lives.

Prayer:
Thank you Lord for the transforming power of your spirit. Thank you that you start where it's important, with the heart, and not with the superficial outside image. Help me not to judge people based on what I observe, but to see them with your eyes and to love them as you would.

SOAP - Matthew 2

Scripture - Matthew 2:21-22
21-23 Joseph obeyed. He got up, took the child and his mother, and reentered Israel. When he heard, though, that Archelaus had succeeded his father, Herod, as king in Judea, he was afraid to go there. But then Joseph was directed in a dream to go to the hills of Galilee. On arrival, he settled in the village of Nazareth. This move was a fulfillment of the prophetic words, "He shall be called a Nazarene."

Observation:
Joseph obeyed, even though he was scared and knew the dangers, he trusted and obeyed God and God made sure it was all ok.

Application:
Trust God. He will speak in many different ways. I need to confirm it in the word and then act on it. It might scare the pants off me but God will guide and direct me, and if it is his will, He'll make it all work out.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to trust you. To trust that you will make your will plainly open to me when you need to, and even when I'm scared or unsure to know that you're looking after me. Thank you that you promise that you're with me when you say "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord"

SOAP - Matthew 1

Scripture - Matthew 1:6
6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife,

Observation:
The lineage of Christ is born out of adultery. God used the marriage between King David and Bathsheba to continue his chosen lineage.

Application:
It doesn't matter how big our stuff-ups are, if we confess our sins and give them to God he can and does use them for good.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to continually seek you in prayer, and to ask your forgiveness for my sins. God, thank you for your promise in Romans that you use all things for good. Thank you that you take my sins and my mistakes and make something good from them!
